sales tax

taxation

  • The Federal tax in Canada that is equivalent to the VAT (mervärdesskatt or moms) in Sweden, is called the GST (Goods and Services Tax). GST is charged at a rate of 5%.

  • The Provincial tax in Canada is called the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) and can vary between each province from 0%-10%.

  • These two taxes are listed separately, however some provinces have combined the two taxes together which is indicated as HST (Harmonized Sales Tax).

  • Taxes are charged based on where the sale takes place.
