taxation
The Federal tax in Canada that is equivalent to the VAT (mervärdesskatt or moms) in Sweden, is called the GST (Goods and Services Tax). GST is charged at a rate of 5%.
The Provincial tax in Canada is called the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) and can vary between each province from 0%-10%.
These two taxes are listed separately, however some provinces have combined the two taxes together which is indicated as HST (Harmonized Sales Tax).
Taxes are charged based on where the sale takes place.
